Assess risks. Uncover value.

Ethical Funds goes the extra mile in research.

When evaluating potential investments, we use data from many sources, including:

  • Industry associations

  • Watchdogs

  • Government databases

  • Non-government organizations

  • Specialist information providers

  • Direct information requests to the companies involved

Establish a baseline of social responsibility

Everything is relative – that's why we assess companies against the baseline expectations of environmental, social and governance (ESG) performance standards commonly understood in their specific industry. For example, we have higher expectations for health and safety systems in the mining sector than for the telecom sector. Making these distinctions is just one example of how Ethical Funds goes the extra mile in research.

Exclude companies that don’t measure up

Companies that don't meet the minimum environmental, social and governance standards established by Ethical Funds’ ESG Evaluation Program or that operate in the tobacco, weapons or nuclear power industries are excluded from our portfolios. End of story.

Continuously monitor our holdings

Deciding if a company is eligible for investment is just the beginning of our business relationship. Once we invest in a company that meets our baseline ESG standards, we continue to regularly monitor its day-to-day business and encourage ongoing improvement of ESG practices.
